Meek Mill - MMG Tour for The Fader

Back in November I got a call from The Fader to shoot the Providence stop of the Maybach Music Tour featuring Meek Mill, Rick Rose, Machine Gun Kelly and Wale.  I generally try to keep up with new music but I have to admit these artists were all off my radar.

So after I was done googling them all I drove to The Dunk (Dunkin Donuts Center) and got my credential. Normally at a larger show and venue the photographers are given only the first three songs of each act to photograph. It's frustrating but it's how almost all the shows work. This was different, I was given full access. It was refreshing to be able to shoot as much as I wanted and not worry about being escorted out of the building. I had fun and wanted to finally shore the photos. Hope you enjoy.

2012 Year in Review Part 1

Well 2012 is almost in the books as they say.  It's been quite a year.  Celebrated my first wedding anniversary, worked with some fantastic new clients, did a little travelling, and worked with and photographed some amazing and inspiring people.  Though the work still has it's ups and downs I am still happy to be doing what I love.

I have put together a gallery of some of my personal favorites from the past year.  Still have some digging to do but will start with this batch.  Hope you enjoy and as always, I am more than happy to hear any feedback.

Oh and for best results click on the 4 arrows in the bottom right corner for the full screen gallery.

For Sale

This is just one from a nearby lot that was just scraped.  I grew up in a more densely populated area so there weren't really large tracts of undeveloped land, or much open land at all aside from parks.  But I have always been fascinated with newer developed areas.  Moving to an area that is still expanding has been interesting.  Tree's are cut, land is scraped and building starts.  The stores and neighborhoods just pushing up against pine forests.  Whatever, it's just a photo of a sign.

One week apart

Or why I love New England, and never leave home without boots.

Juxtaposition

One of the most exciting aspects of working as a photojournalist is the fact that every assignment you have is different.  Sometimes they are exceptionally different.  For example showing up at a fancy gala for a celebrity photo after just leaving a murder scene that was only a two miles away.  At the gala, people are laughing, having fun, drinking, eating all while looking their best.  At the crime scene you are sometimes dealing relatives of the victim who are literally having the worst day of their life.  It can be strange and can take some getting used to and you have to learn how to wear different hats.

Back in July I had one of those days.  Was sent to a candlelight vigil for two murder victims and then directly over to a private concert featuring scantily clad 20 somethings downing free rum all night.

Old Timey Baseball

Just a little break from my ongoing story.  Shot the Cubs v Sox game on Saturday at Fenway.  The teams donned circa 1918 style uniforms as a nod to the year that the Cubs were last in town.  They even went so far as to bring in old announcers with big megaphones that walked around and called out the players at bat.  Pretty cool.  I shot the introductions with a lens that I thought would fit the mood.  It adds a heavy vignette on the edges of the photo and allows me to shoot in a shallow depth of field.  My intent was to give the images that old timey feel.  Have a look and let me know what you think.

New Look

I just did a quick redesign of the old blog and thought now that I did all this work I should post something.  Take a look and let me know if it works for you.

So here is a photo from a news story I worked on for The Boston Herald. A reporter and I had to follow up on a stabbing that happened the night before in a housing project in Boston. This woman was neighbors with the victim and the suspect and heard the whole thing through her walls.

I am also working on a project and hope to have a few select photos up here and on my website in the next few weeks.  I will keep you posted.  And be sure to check my site http://www.matthealey.com for my full portfolio and contact information.

Safe

Just a pic I happened to come across from this past summer.  It was a Legion game in mid June and as usual the fields were all but dust.  Will have some more pics up here in the next day or so, just waiting for some of them to run so stay tuned.
